Biomet buys biomaterials fim Cartilix
Deal summary reprinted from Strategic Transactions - October 2009
Five-year-old Cartilix has developed the ChonDux technology, which consists of a biological adhesive (chondroitin sulfate) and hydrogel (polyethylene glycol and hyaluronic acid) that photopolymerizes in situ to fill articular cartilage lesions. ChonDux is slated to begin clinical trials in Europe and the US next year. Biomet feels that Cartilix's technology will fit nicely with its own knee repair products, such as the MaxFire meniscal repair device and LactoNail for bone fixation.
