India's semiconductor industry is looking to medical devices as the next big market for the silicon chips. The head of the Indian Semiconductor Association said the market for chips for medical applications has been growing at a rate of 12 percent a year, yet still comprises only 1 percent of the $266.6 billion industry worldwide. The ISA earlier adopted medical electronics as its top priority this year, seeing in India of both a need for the product and the ability to produce it. U.S. maker Texas Instruments already has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology to develop semiconductor technologies in the health care area. (Click here for more)
