Hitachi faces increasing competition for expensive devices in Japan. The firm already expects to double last year's unit sales of its high-end MRI scanners in the United States, Europe and Japan. To handle the increased production, Hitachi is re-outfitting its main plant in Japan with new production equipment to move manufacturing of its regular MRIs to China in the summer.
