Stryker to sell LiquiBand for Advanced Medical Solutions
Deal summary reprinted from Strategic Transactions - July 2009
Advanced Medical Solutions PLC (wound care) has granted Stryker exclusive worldwide marketing and distribution rights to certain craniomaxillofacial (CMF) products in its LiquiBand line of wound closing adhesives.
The licensed products have been approved for sale in Europe, where Stryker expects to launch them later this month. Market approval is expected in the US later this year. LiquiBand is a cyanacrylate-based topical tissue adhesive (in a single-use sterile applicator) for emergency and operating room use as an alternative to sutures or staples. Applying the solution to open wounds reduces the risk of infection, is not traumatic to the patient (since it is noninvasive and requires no needles or anesthetic), and accelerates healing time. While it was not specified what exactly Stryker's license covers, the LiquiBand line contains products for surgical use (in conjunction with forceps) and laparoscopic procedures, as well as the Optima pre-assembled delivery device and the LiquiSeal protective microbarrier film for use after suturing or stapling. Stryker is a recognized leader in the $900mm global CMF surgery field. Its offerings include the Leibinger maxillofacial plating and neurology systems, biomaterials, needles, instruments, and distraction tools.
